SYS-STI-BMI: Accelerator Systems Department - Sources, Targets and Interactions - Beam Machine Interactions

  • Characterization and calibration of a Timepix3 based detector for R2E applications.
    • Test beams for: neutrons, protons, alphas and gammas.
    • Radiation monitoring at: IR4 (Beam Gas instruments), IR8 (LHCb cavern), IR1 (SND experiment).
  • Monte Carlo simulations (FLUKA) for the radiation environment in the LHC tunnel, focusing on the areas around IR4, in order to perform energy deposition and radiation effects studies.
    • Beam Gas Vertex (BGV) demonstrator operation from LHC Run 2 (2015-2018) and possibly for HL-LHC.
    • Beam Gas Curtain (BGC) demonstrator operation from LHC Run 3 (2022-to date) and possibly for HL-LHC.
